Where ceramic makes the most sense
The tile industry would love everyone to buy porcelain everywhere, but plenty of rooms are perfectly served by good ceramic at a better price: powder rooms, guest baths, laundry rooms, backsplash-adjacent kitchen floors in careful households. Ceramic bodies are easier to cut, which also trims labor on intricate layouts. Where traffic is brutal or water is constant, we will say porcelain plainly. Everywhere else, ceramic is the smart-money floor.
Style-wise ceramic runs wider than its reputation: handmade-look subway formats, patterned encaustic-style tiles that turn a laundry room into the best room in the house, hexagons, penny rounds, and glazes in colors porcelain rarely bothers with. If you want a floor with personality per dollar, this is the aisle.

Substrate prep
Cement board or membrane where it belongs, flat and fastened to spec. Tile is only as good as what it sits on.
Setting and grouting
Tiles set level with consistent joints, cuts kept tight at edges and penetrations, grout worked clean and sealed once cured.

Joint lines checked with you, haze buffed off, leftover tile boxed and labeled for future repairs.
Ceramic's fine print, stated plainly
Ceramic’s glaze is its armor, and its weak point: a hard impact can chip through to the clay body, which shows lighter underneath. In high-drop kitchens, that argues for porcelain or for keeping attic stock so single tiles can be swapped invisibly, and we always recommend ordering that extra box. Chips in ceramic are repairable but visible; replacement of a tile from attic stock is invisible.
Water rating matters too: standard ceramic belongs on floors and walls in normal wet rooms, but not in submerged or exterior freeze-thaw duty. That is porcelain’s job, and the boxes say so in small print we read on your behalf.

What is the real difference between ceramic and porcelain?
Density from the firing process. Porcelain absorbs almost no water and wears harder; ceramic is lighter, easier to cut, and cheaper. Both make excellent floors in the rooms that suit them.
Can you install patterned cement-look tiles?
Yes, the encaustic-look ceramic and porcelain lines set exactly like standard tile and deliver huge style for small square footage. Powder rooms and laundries are perfect for them.
Do you keep extra tiles after the job?
We order overage for cuts plus attic stock for you, typically most of a box. Dye lots vary between production runs, so those spares are the only guaranteed match your floor will ever have. Store them.
How do I maintain a ceramic floor?
Sweep and damp mop with neutral cleaner, reseal the grout every couple of years, and skip acidic or abrasive products. That is the entire regimen. Ceramic asks very little, which is much of its appeal.
