Laminate plank being replaced during a floor repair

Laminate Floor Repair

Laminate cannot be sanded, so repairs work differently: chips get filled, planks get swapped, seams get dried and corrected. Knowing which fix fits which damage is the trade knowledge you are hiring.

What can and cannot be fixed

Small cosmetic damage, chips, edge dings, and shallow scratches, repairs neatly with color-matched filler systems made for laminate. Deeper damage stops at the plank boundary: a cracked, delaminated, or badly swollen plank is a replacement, not a repair. In click-lock floors we open the field to the casualty and swap it. In glued older floors we cut the damaged plank free and set a replacement without disturbing the neighbors.

Swelling deserves its own paragraph because it is laminate’s signature injury. A little edge-peaking from a caught spill sometimes settles as it dries. A seam that swallowed a dishwasher leak is permanent, because the wood-based core expanded and will not shrink back flat. We tell you which you have within minutes of looking, and we check what the subfloor underneath absorbed too.

What the job includes

  • Color-matched chip and scratch repair on cosmetic damage
  • Individual plank replacement in click-lock floors
  • Cut-and-replace surgery on glued or trapped planks
  • Moisture assessment under any swollen area
  • Squeak and soft-spot correction at the subfloor
  • Match-hunting for discontinued lines, donor-plank tricks included

How the job runs

The walkthrough

We measure, check the subfloor for moisture and flatness, and talk through underlayment options. Straight price in writing before work starts.

Prep that lasts

Old flooring out, subfloor leveled, the right underlayment for your slab or joists. Quiet floors come from this step, not from the plank box.

Tight installation

Rows locked with staggered joints, expansion gaps at every wall, doorway transitions that do not catch your sock.

The walkoff

We walk it with you, reinstall base and shoe molding, and haul every scrap out.

The repair-versus-replace math on laminate

Laminate repair economics are blunt: single-plank damage with available material is cheap and absolutely worth fixing. Water damage across a seam network usually is not, because every affected plank needs replacing and the labor of opening the floor approaches the labor of redoing it. We price both paths honestly, and when repair costs cross about half of replacement, we recommend the floor that comes with a fresh start and a warranty.

The other blunt truth: if your laminate is fifteen years old and one section failed, more sections are close behind. Repairing the first casualty of an aging floor is fine triage, but budget-wise you should hear that the floor is announcing its retirement, so we say it.

The way we do business

No sales scripts, no pressure, no mystery math. You call, Thiago comes out, and you get a straight price in writing with the reasoning attached. If your floor needs less than you feared, you will hear that too, because we would rather keep a neighbor than win an invoice. We have been running this way in Shawnee since 2012, we are licensed and insured, and the 5.0 Google rating is the receipt.

Materials we stand behind

Laminate lives and dies by its rating letters. We source AC3 and better residential product and AC4-plus commercial grades through ProSource Wholesale, from manufacturers whose locking systems and cores we have installed for years and trust. Water-resistant tiers get specified honestly: what they tolerate, for how long, and where they still do not belong.

Underlayment gets chosen with the same seriousness, because half of what people love or hate about a laminate floor, the sound, the feel underfoot, the warmth, comes from what is under it. The right pad for your subfloor and rooms costs a little more than the bargain roll and improves every single step you take on the floor afterward.

Where we do this work

We fix laminate everywhere we work, with steady calls from Overland Park households, Kansas City, KS rentals between tenants, and Olathe kitchens that lost a round to the dishwasher.

Our shop sits in Shawnee and the working radius runs fifty miles in every direction, which covers Johnson, Wyandotte, and Jackson counties and everything between. If you are anywhere in the KC metro and need laminate floor repair handled by people who do it every week, you are inside the circle.

Can a single laminate plank be replaced?

Yes. Click-lock floors open to the damaged plank and relock; glued planks get cut out and replaced in place. With matching material the repair is quick and invisible. Without it, we go hunting, and we are decent hunters.

Can swollen laminate be flattened back down?

Mild peaking from a fast-caught spill sometimes relaxes as it dries. True swelling is permanent because the core expanded. Those planks get replaced, and we check the moisture story underneath before closing anything up.

Can you sand and refinish laminate?

No, and walk away from anyone who says yes. The wood-look surface is a printed layer with no thickness to sand. Laminate repairs are filler work or plank replacement, full stop.

My laminate is discontinued. Now what?

We search suppliers for remaining stock, and failing that, harvest donor planks from closets or under appliances to repair the visible field, then patch the hidden spot with the closest available match. It works more often than you would guess.

Is it worth repairing an old laminate floor?

If damage is local and the floor otherwise sound, yes. If the floor is aging out across the board, we will show you the repair number next to the replacement number and let honesty do the selling.

How do I get a price for laminate floor repair?

Call (913) 915-3193 or send the contact form with a rough description of the rooms and what is on the floor now. Thiago comes out, looks at the actual conditions, measures, and hands you a straight price in writing, usually within a few days of your call. No pressure follows it, and the number does not mutate once work starts.
