Tile Grout Repair
Cracked, crumbling, or permanently grimy grout makes a perfectly good tile floor look done for. Regrouting costs a small fraction of new tile and resets the whole floor’s appearance in a day or two.
New lines, same tile
Grout is the sacrificial part of a tile floor: it takes the flexing, the mopping chemistry, and the stains so the tile does not have to. When it fails, cosmetically or structurally, the fix is mechanical removal of the failed joints, a fresh grout application in the color of your choosing, and sealing once cured. The floor underneath is usually perfectly healthy, which is why this repair punches so far above its cost.
Color is the fun part: regrouting is your chance to change the floor’s whole attitude. Going darker hides future staining and makes older tile read intentional; matching the original keeps things classic. We bring samples and squeeze a test line before committing the room.
What the job includes
- Mechanical removal of failed grout to proper depth
- Cause diagnosis where cracking suggests movement below
- Fresh grout in matched or deliberately new color
- Epoxy grout upgrades for stain-proof performance where wanted
- Caulk replacement at tubs, showers, and floor transitions
- Sealing after cure, with a realistic maintenance schedule
How the job runs
The walkthrough
We look at the substrate, talk layout and grout lines, and flag anything that needs correcting underneath. You get a straight price in writing.
Substrate prep
Cement board or membrane where it belongs, flat and fastened to spec. Tile is only as good as what it sits on.
Setting and grouting
Tiles set level with consistent joints, cuts kept tight at edges and penetrations, grout worked clean and sealed once cured.
The walkoff
Joint lines checked with you, haze buffed off, leftover tile boxed and labeled for future repairs.
When grout problems are not grout problems
Grout that cracks along the same lines repeatedly is a messenger, not the problem: the substrate beneath is flexing, or a movement joint is missing where the spec required one. Regrouting over movement buys a season, not a decade. We tap and read the floor before quoting, and if your grout failure is structural, you will get that truth with options rather than a cosmetic patch and an invoice.
Where the joints meet tubs, showers, and different floors, rigid grout is actually the wrong material; those junctions need flexible caulk, and grout there cracks on schedule. Any regrout we do converts those lines to proper silicone or urethane, which is a small detail that ends a recurring annoyance.
Why people call us instead of the big outfits
Hardwood Kings is Thiago Reis and his crew, not a call center with subcontractors. The person who looks at your floor is the person responsible for how it turns out, and the company’s whole reputation, fourteen years of it, rides on every job. We are licensed, certified, and insured, our Google rating sits at 5.0, and most new work comes from referrals and repeat customers. That is what treating clients like family earns, and it is the only marketing we have ever really trusted.
Materials we stand behind
Tile and setting materials come through ProSource Wholesale and trade suppliers at contractor pricing: porcelain and ceramic from manufacturers whose sizing runs true, natural stone sorted by hand, and the mortars, membranes, and grouts that the tile industry’s standards actually call for. The pretty part of the floor is a fraction of what goes into it staying pretty.
We will also talk you through grout chemistry, cementitious versus epoxy, sealed versus not, because grout is the part of a tile floor you live with daily. Epoxy costs more on install day and never asks for attention again; cement grout is economical and wants sealing on a schedule. Both are right answers in the right rooms, and we quote them side by side.

Thiago answers flooring questions all day and enjoys it.
(913) 915-3193hardwoodkingsinc@gmail.comCan grout really be removed and replaced without damaging tile?
Yes, with oscillating and carbide tools run at careful depth along the joints. Edges stay protected, tile stays whole, and the new grout bonds properly because the old material is actually gone, not just topped.
Should I just paint or colorant-coat my grout instead?
Grout colorants have their place on sound, clean joints and we will say when that cheaper path fits. Over cracked or crumbling grout they are makeup on a problem, and regrouting is the honest fix.
Is epoxy grout worth the upgrade?
For stain-prone floors, kitchens, and grout-scrubbing-haters, genuinely yes: it is essentially stain-proof and never needs sealing. It costs more to install because it is fussier to work. We quote it alongside standard grout so you choose informed.
Why does my shower floor grout keep cracking at the walls?
Because those joints move, and rigid grout does not. Junction lines belong in flexible caulk, not grout. Converting them correctly is part of every regrout we do, and it ends that specific cycle.
How long does regrouting take?
Most bathrooms run one to two days including removal, grouting, and cure before sealing. Kitchens and large floors scale up modestly. You get the schedule, and your floor back, fast.
