Floor Diagnostic Quiz

Five questions. A straight read on your floor.

Tell us the symptoms. Thiago reads every quiz himself and replies with what he would actually do: refinish it, repair it, or replace it.

Diagnose it before you spend on it

Takes about a minute. No account, no spam list, and nothing is required except a way to reach you back on the last step.

What is on the floor right now?

Best guess is fine. Thiago can tell the difference from a photo later.

What are the symptoms?

Check everything that applies. This is the part that decides refinish versus repair versus replace.

When was it last sanded, sealed, or replaced?

Age changes the answer. A 40 year old solid oak floor is often in better shape underneath than a 10 year old bargain install.

How much floor are we talking about?

Rough scope is enough. Exact measuring happens at the visit, not on your tape measure.

Where should Thiago send the read?

He reads every quiz himself and gets back to you, usually the same day, with what he would actually do and roughly what it involves.

No pressure follows and your info goes nowhere else. If the honest answer is that your floor needs less work than you feared, that is the answer you will get.

How it works

A real diagnosis, not a sales funnel

The quiz gives Thiago the same first read he takes on every call: what is down now, what it is doing, how old it is, and how much of it there is. From those four answers he can usually tell whether you are looking at a refinish, a repair, or a replacement before he ever sees the house.

Then he comes and looks, because floors lie in photos and quizzes. The visit is where you get a straight price in writing. Prefer to skip the form entirely? Reach out directly or call (913) 915-3193 and talk to him now.

What five answers tell a floor guy

The floor type sets the ceiling. Solid hardwood can be sanded five or six times over its life, so even a rough one usually has comebacks left in it. Engineered wood carries one thin wear layer, sometimes good for two sandings, sometimes none, which is why Thiago asks about it before anything else. Vinyl, laminate, and tile do not refinish at all; when they fail, the conversation is repair versus replace, with honest math on which.

Symptoms narrow it further. Surface scratches and dullness usually point at a screen and recoat or a full refinish. Cupping, gaps, and movement point below the boards, at moisture or subfloor problems that have to be solved first, because new finish over a moving floor is money spent on a symptom. Water damage changes the order of operations entirely, and squeaks are almost always structure, not wood.

Age and scope set the plan. A floor on its first finish at year 25 responds differently than one recoated twice in ten years, and one room versus a whole level changes how we stage furniture, dust control, and your family’s routine around the work. Across Johnson County and the wider KC metro we have run into nearly every combination this quiz can produce, which is part of why the reply comes back fast.

None of it replaces the visit. It aims the visit. When Thiago walks in already knowing the species question, the symptom list, and the rough square footage, the appointment runs shorter, the written price lands sooner, and nobody gets sold a replacement their floor never asked for. If you would rather skip the questions and just have him out, that works too; the quiz exists for people who want the read first.

Rather show than tell?

Do I need to know what kind of floor I have?

No. Pick the closest guess or choose the not sure option. Species, wear layer, and construction are exactly the things Thiago identifies in person, and carpet over a mystery is one of his favorite reveals. Half the homes in Johnson County are hiding solid oak under 1990s carpet.

What do I get back after I send it?

A direct reply from Thiago, usually the same day, with his honest read: refinish, repair, or replace, and what each path involves for your situation. If the answers point somewhere unusual, like a moisture problem that needs solving before any floor work makes sense, he will say that instead.

Does the quiz cost anything or commit me to anything?

No. It is the same conversation you would have on a first phone call, just faster to start. You are not on a follow-up list and nobody chases you. If you want the next step, that is a free visit where he measures and hands you a straight price in writing.

Can I send photos with it?

Photos help more than anything else. The form keeps it to the five questions, so send pictures by text to (913) 915-3193 or email them to hardwoodkingsinc@gmail.com after you submit, and mention the quiz. Even bad lighting phone shots sharpen the read a lot.

Do you diagnose commercial floors too?

Yes. Pick the business option on the size question. Offices, retail, restaurants, and healthcare floors across the metro get the same read, with scheduling built around your operating hours. Mention square footage if you know it roughly.

What if my floor is beyond saving?

Then you will hear that plainly, along with what replacement actually looks like for your rooms. It costs us jobs occasionally and wins us neighborhoods reliably. Whatever the verdict, you decide the pace; the contact page is there when you are ready.
